Captain Robert W. Warren

Career Assignments

After receiving his commission in 1992, he served aboard USCGC VIGILANT. as Executive Officer on USCGC SAPELO, and as Commanding Officer of the USCGC TYBEE. Ashore he served in the Commandant’s Office of International Affairs, where he coordinated the Commandant’s international travel and foreign policy direction in concert with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and State Department. Captain Warren has also served as a budget analyst and funds manager in the Office of Financial Management and as the Coast Guard’s liaison to the House of Representatives and Director of the House Liaison Office, where he coordinated all Coast Guard engagement with House Congressional committees, members and staffs regarding Coast Guard appropriations, authorizations, and related interests on the Hill. He served on the Joint Staff (J-5) at the Pentagon, before receiving Command of Coast Guard Sector San Juan, responsible for all Coast Guard operations in the eastern Caribbean. He continued service in operations as Chief of the Response Operations for Coast Guard District One, charged with overseeing all Coast Guard operations from New Jersey to the Canadian border, and then as Chief of Staff for the First Coast Guard District. His final tour took him back to Washington DC, where he served as Chief of Congressional and Governmental Affairs, coordinating all Coast Guard engagements with Capitol Hill and other governmental agencies before retiring at 30 years of service. He now serves as Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs within the Department of Justice/ATF, continuing his Congressional and legislative work on Capitol Hill.

Education

Captain Warren is a 1992 Coast Guard Academy graduate. He earned an MBA in finance from the University of Maryland and a master’s in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
