Arlington, VA - The Navy Mutual Aid Association (Navy Mutual) and Navy Federal Credit Union are partnering to co-sponsor the annual football contest between the Midshipmen of the U.S. Naval Academy and the “Fighting Irish” of the University of Notre Dame. This year’s edition of this storied athletic rivalry is scheduled to be held November 5 in Jacksonville, Fla., at EverBank Field, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Navy vs. Notre Dame game has been played annually since 1927, making it the longest uninterrupted intersectional rivalry in college football. Both Navy Mutual and Navy Federal are long time lead partners of Navy Football and Navy Athletics.
“Navy football and other athletic programs showcase student athletes who are committed to serve this Nation,” said retired Rear Admiral Bruce Engelhardt, Navy Mutual President and CEO. “We are proud to support these future leaders and build on our long relationship with Navy Athletics to showcase their talents for military families in Jacksonville and across the Nation.”
“The history of excellence both football programs display speaks to the high caliber of student athletes both current and in years past,” said retired Vice Admiral Cutler Dawson, Navy Federal President and CEO. “As a legacy supporter of Navy Athletics and the military community at-large, supporting this game reinforces our commitment to both the surrounding community and those who wear the uniform.”
The North Florida and southern Georgia area is home to thousands of Active Duty and retired military, veterans and their families, and the ROTC program at Notre Dame produces many Navy and Marine Corps officers each year, second only to the Naval Academy itself.
